Robotic Surgery Update
We have now completed our first 44 robotically assisted gastric bypass operations. I am pleased to report that our patients are doing well. We have had no leaks and no transfusions. Most patients are now going home the day after surgery. Surgical pain is much less and patients seems to be pain free on their first office visit after surgery at 1 week after the operation.
We have needed to dilate one patient who developed a narrowing between the gastric pouch and the Roux limb of the small intestine.
We now are completing the operations in 2 hours.

That is a great advancement in the field of medical science that the robotic surgeries are successful and so now there could be many more taken up for the benefit of many. What are implications on cost ...is it the same?
ReplyDeleteTo my knowledge there is no increase in charge to the patient or insurance company. In fact there may be some decrease in some situations since the length of stay in the hospital is often less.
ReplyDeleteThis is heart warming really. There is a growing demand for surgery and therefore this is going to be very beneficial to get things done faster and probably with accurate precision.definitely intervention and guidance of good surgeons is really necessary also.
